Once again, the UAB offers its UAB Refugee Grants which since 2016 has helped over 100 refugee students continue with their university studies. This 4th edition offers a total of 10,000 euros for the 2023/24 academic year, with a maximum grant amount of 1,200 euros per student. An additional grant will also be given to refugee students affected by conflict in the Ukraine.

Activitat de l'Àrea d'Acollida de la FAS

University students seeking refuge and/or similar circumstances face major obstacles when it comes to resuming and continuing their university studies due to the social, administrative and economic vulnerability that refugee status entails. Faced with this situation, the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS), through the Programme for the Reception of People Seeking Refuge at the UAB, works to promote the rights of refugees and deploys a comprehensive strategy of accompaniment and support for access to and continuation of higher education.

In this 2023/24 academic year, young students from Afghanistan, Ukraine, Russia and Colombia form part of the 42 people enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programme at the UAB thanks to the tuition waiver programme UAB Refugi and who will now be able to benefit from this other grant.

This 4th call includes a total of 10,000 euros for this 2023/24 academic year, with a maximum of 1,200 euros € per student to be spent on technological material, transport and/or other academic material necessary for the student's university studies.

This call for grants is possible thanks to the 7,500 euros donated by Fundació Caixa d’Enginyers, who believes education is a key social cohesion tool for personal and community development. The rest of the amount offered by these grants come from the FUAB, which ahs donated 1,000 euros to the project, and the UAB, which provides the remaining 1,5000 euros.

Call for applications for study support grants for refugee students and those affected by the conflict in Ukraine (2023/24)

The unexpected outbreak of war in Ukraine in 2022 meant, among other things, the interruption of academic activity in the vast majority of the country's universities. Faced with this humanitarian crisis, the Spanish Ministry for Universities promoted an exceptional University-Refuge Action Plan to promote the reception of students, research staff and administration and services staff affected by the conflict in the Ukraine. Within the framework of this plan and through the direct awarding of grants, the UAB and the FAS have established a series of actions, including this call for applications aimed at young people from the Ukraine in a situation of particular economic vulnerability.

Applications can be sent in until 21 January. The call details can be consulted here.
